Pima College Access Network and Tucson Young Professionals to support early career educators

Oct 2, 2024

This shared initiative aims to enhance the continuum of education by supporting local educators with professional development, networking and mentorship.

The Pima College Access Network (PCAN), through the Metro Education Commission under the City of Tucson and Pima County, has partnered with Tucson Young Professionals (TYP) to offer free TYP memberships to 40 K-12 educators in the Tucson metro area.

PCAN empowers learners on their journey toward post-secondary education, inspired by a commitment to service and lifelong learning, while supporting educators in their dedication to successful outcomes for youth.

TYP empowers the next generation of leaders to thrive both professionally and personally. Through dynamic programming, mentorship, and leadership opportunities, TYP members gain the tools and connections necessary to drive meaningful change in their careers and the Tucson community.

This partnership between PCAN and TYP aims to enhance the continuum of education by supporting early career educators connect with the local community in and out of the classroom, and empower them as both professionals and leaders in their field of service to our students.

“We are excited to extend our resources to support early career educators whose service is fundamental to our community’s future,” said Rocque Perez, Executive Director of the Pima College Access Network. “By connecting K-12 educators with mentors and professional development opportunities, we are investing in their success and, in turn, the success of our students.”

Educators who join through this program will receive a one-year TYP membership, granting access to a range of exclusive events and opportunities designed to connect, grow, and learn.

Members can engage with like-minded professionals through the member directory, a private LinkedIn group, monthly socials, and an annual holiday party. Growth opportunities are optional, and include 12-week K-12 Educator Mentorship Program, the 12-month cohort-based TYP Ambassadors program, involvement in member-led committees, and participation on the TYP Board of Directors, providing insights into nonprofit board service. Members also have direct access to top business and civic leaders, and stay informed through a monthly newsletter. Learning experiences include CEO Roundtables with local top executives, the ignite520 Leadership Experience, quarterly Engage Summits for thought leadership, and professional development workshops focused on communication, personal branding, and career growth.

“Tucson Young Professionals is thrilled to be able to support our region’s early career educators through this new partnership. By providing access to professional development, networking, and mentorship opportunities, we are helping to strengthen the foundation of Pima County’s education system and ensuring that our early-career educators feel valued and empowered to make a difference in the lives of their students,” said Jessica Sueskind, Executive Director of Tucson Young Professionals.

This initiative is made possible by Pima County and the City of Tucson through its continued investment in the Metro Education Commission, a 501(c)3 and public body of the city and county, which funds this partnership through PCAN.
